No matter what is our background mine being in the social sciences when job interviewers ask the diversity question, i often have a hard time getting around it. This is normal. Let me start with what not to do. The diversity question is not just asking about your knowlege, and your comfort with the subject but it is really used to pick up on red flags in your communication skills.
what not to do:
1. talk about your own life and how people cant accept you as a ... person and etc. interviewers see this as a form of whining and think if this person said this in the interview they will turn into a dreaded whistle blower on the job...
2. never talk in terms of labels and categories because diversity is a social construct. either each person is unique or we are all the same and society just labels us to oppress us so avoid using any label for anybody.
3. avoid stereotypes. stereotypes are fallacious and are never true.
4. talk slow hesitate etc
what you should do
1. talk fast accurately and decisively attack the issue like you own it
2. say diversity is a social construct and not a biological fact
3. admit that it is a hard topic within the business environment and dealing with it directly and in the open and coping with it as a team can increase the revenue of the business
4. make a dicsive conclusion that perhaps one day we will over come these superficial issues and will become a bettar society
5. or make up anything else just try to manipulate this person to get the job be their best friend laugh and youll be employed and a millionair
